Detroit police are investigating after the body of an unidentified woman was found wrapped in plastic on a residential street near a well-known city park Sunday evening.
Officers came across the body around 6 p.m. while conducting a routine patrol in the area near Palmer Park, a popular recreational spot on the city’s northwest side. The discovery was made near the intersection of Hershey and Annin streets, just minutes from the busy Woodward Avenue and 7 Mile Road corridor.
According to reports, the woman’s body had been concealed in multiple layers, including two different types of cloth. A plastic bag was also tied around her, raising concerns that the body had been deliberately hidden or transported before being left in the street. The circumstances surrounding the discovery immediately prompted a homicide investigation.
Detroit police confirmed that their homicide unit has taken over the case, though authorities have released few details as the investigation remains in its early stages. The woman’s identity has not yet been made public, and police have not announced any suspects or persons of interest.

Investigators are working to determine how long the body had been at the location and whether the woman was killed nearby or elsewhere. The area surrounding the park and nearby streets is being examined for surveillance footage or witnesses who may have seen unusual activity prior to the discovery.
Palmer Park is a well-frequented area, particularly during daylight hours, making the find especially unsettling for residents and park visitors. Local authorities have not indicated whether the public is at immediate risk but are urging anyone with information related to the case to come forward.
As detectives continue to piece together what happened, officials say updates will be shared as soon as more is known. Anyone with tips or relevant information is encouraged to contact the Detroit Police Department or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
