Kaley Cuoco is opening up about a surprising change in her relationship with fiancé Tom Pelphrey — and it has everything to do with sleep.
During a recent appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, the Big Bang Theory star revealed that she and Pelphrey no longer sleep in the same bed. The decision came after Pelphrey, 43, struggled to get quality rest due to their clashing schedules and the chaos of nighttime life with pets.
Cuoco explained that Pelphrey is naturally a night owl, often staying up late to read, write, and enjoy quiet time. Meanwhile, she goes to bed earlier because she’s the one up early with their 2-year-old daughter, Matilda. On top of that, their elderly dogs reportedly added even more disruption, making restful sleep nearly impossible for him.
Eventually, Pelphrey reached his breaking point and suggested he move into the guest room. Cuoco said she understood immediately — and once the switch happened, the results were instant. She called the new arrangement a “game changer,” saying it’s made their household run far more smoothly.
While the setup works well now, Cuoco admitted she wasn’t thrilled at first. She recalled that the topic came up during couples therapy, and her initial concern was how others might view them sleeping separately. But Pelphrey pushed back, pointing out that they barely spent time together at night anyway, and the change wouldn’t affect intimacy or closeness in the way people assume.

Cuoco said she eventually realized she didn’t actually care what anyone thought — and once they tried it, she saw how much better it made life for both of them.
Now, Pelphrey sleeps without being disturbed by pets, while Cuoco can wake up early with Matilda without worrying about waking him. Cuoco shared that their daughter often climbs into bed with her in the morning, allowing them to start the day together in a way that feels comfortable and stress-free.
The actress made it clear the new routine isn’t a sign of trouble. Instead, she says it’s simply a practical solution that works for their family — proving that sometimes the healthiest relationship choices aren’t always the most traditional ones.
