Taylor Swift delivered an unexpected boost of encouragement to Team USA athletes ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics, appearing in a surprise video message posted on social media just before the Games officially begin in Milan and Cortina.

The video, shared on Feb. 6 through the NBC Olympics social media account, featured Swift speaking directly to Olympians and thanking them for the work and sacrifices that brought them to this moment. “Hi, it’s Taylor,” she said in the clip, before expressing her admiration for the dedication it takes to compete at the Olympic level.

Swift, 36, emphasized that learning athletes’ stories has been inspiring, highlighting the determination, passion, and discipline required to reach the Games. She acknowledged the personal sacrifices athletes make and told them she was grateful they allow fans to follow along on their journeys. Her message focused on encouragement and appreciation, recognizing not only their athletic talent but the effort and commitment behind it.

In the video, Swift wore a sweatshirt from Polo Ralph Lauren’s official Team USA Olympic collection, adding a patriotic touch to her supportive appearance. She ended her message by wishing athletes good luck, a safe experience, and an Olympic journey they would remember for the rest of their lives.

The timing of Swift’s Olympic message was notable, as it came on the same day she released the music video for her newest single, “Opalite,” from her 2025 album The Life of a Showgirl. The video has already gained attention for its star-studded cast, featuring actors and celebrities including Domhnall Gleeson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Greta Lee, Lewis Capaldi, Cillian Murphy, and Graham Norton.

Swift also explained that the concept for the “Opalite” music video came from a moment during her appearance on The Graham Norton Show back in October. She recalled being paired with a group of guests she deeply admired, and during their conversation, Gleeson jokingly said he wanted to appear in one of her music videos. Although he was teasing, Swift said the comment immediately sparked an idea.

According to Swift, she began imagining what it would be like to include not only Gleeson, but everyone from that episode of the show — including Graham Norton himself — in the same project. She described it as a playful “group project” for adults, but one that was entirely voluntary. To her surprise, she said everyone agreed to take part.

Swift revealed that the video leaned into a nostalgic theme, with the cast “time traveling” back to the 1990s. She shared that the experience was even more fun than she expected, and she enjoyed creating the characters, story, and style of the video. She also joked that the project led to new friendships, metaphors, and bold fashion choices.

Between the Olympic message and the new music video release, Swift had a major day in the spotlight — one that blended pop culture and sports in a way fans rarely see. For Team USA athletes preparing to compete on the world stage, her message served as a high-profile reminder that millions are watching, cheering, and grateful for the effort it takes to chase Olympic dreams.
