Olympic fever is heating up in Italy, but it’s not the pasta or pizza that’s got everyone talking! As athletes pour into Milan for the much-anticipated 2026 Winter Games, the real star of the show is… humble focaccia bread. That’s right—the Canadian women’s ice hockey team has been spilling their secrets from inside the Olympic Village, and focaccia is stealing the culinary spotlight.
The team gave fans an all-access look behind the scenes just days before the Games kick off on February 6. In a hilarious TikTok captured by Julia Gosling on February 3, Sophie Jaques happily boasts about her meal, revealing, “I have pasta with a regular meat sauce. And then they had fresh mozzarella, so I had to grab it, and focaccia.” Who needs pizza when Italy’s legendary bread is so tempting?
But greens? That’s another story. Daryl Watts poked fun at her very beige, carb-loaded tray, joking, “This is what I got: beef, veal, Brie [cheese], focaccia, I think this is parmesan, burrata, pasta. No veggies, they’re coming, OK?”
Teammates Julia Gosling and Jenn Gardiner couldn’t hide their focaccia obsession either, with Julia stating, “I got pasta with meat sauce. Zucchini, focaccia bread—I already took a nibble out—and beef.” Jenn, meanwhile, showcased her own carb-heavy choice: pasta, focaccia, and salad, confessing, “I’m gonna need to go back, I’m starving.”
If you thought focaccia fever stopped there, think again! “First meal in the village!!! FOCACCIA IS A HIT!! addicted already!” Julia teased in her viral video caption. The bread might be universal, but reactions to the rest of the meal? Not so much.

Olympic viewers jumped into the comments with their candid takes. “Why is it all so dry?” quipped one skeptical fan. Another dished out a savage comparison, admitting, “It looks like hospital food.”
Culture clash wasn’t far behind, with Italian followers chiming in. “It’s funny to see you put everything on one plate. We Italians separate the courses with different plates and a specific order. Anyway, it all goes to the same place in the end, so it’s all good,” one pointed out. Another insisted, “no no no. we Italians don’t stuff everything in one plate.”
While the menu left some craving more, another Olympic staple hit all the right notes: the epic Team USA swag bags. Packed out with gear from Nike, SKIMS, and Ralph Lauren, athletes flaunted their fresh threads all over social media.
Taylor Heise summed up the excitement perfectly, declaring, “What a dream … The opening and closing fits are gonna be AMAZING!” Snowboarder Hahna Norman was equally dazzled, dazzling, “All this stuff is so awesome… I’m in love with this. Holy smokes.”
Taylor and Hahna are just a couple of the stars set to chase gold for Team USA once the torch is lit on February 6 in Milan. As the countdown clock ticks, fans everywhere are hungry for more—focaccia or not!
