Arizona authorities are continuing an intense search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Today show anchor Savannah Guthrie, who vanished from her home in the Catalina Foothills area outside Tucson late Saturday night. Her disappearance has sparked widespread concern, not only in the local community but also nationally due to her daughter’s high public profile. As the search stretches into another day, officials say they are still holding onto hope that Nancy is alive and somewhere nearby.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos emphasized that investigators are operating under the most optimistic assumption possible. Speaking with NBC News reporter Liz Kreutz, Nanos stated that law enforcement has no evidence suggesting Nancy has left the area, and therefore their focus remains on locating her quickly and safely. He expressed strong belief that she is still present and that rescuing her remains the priority.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday evening. Family members became alarmed when she could not be located by midday Sunday. Because Nancy reportedly suffers from mobility problems, her sudden disappearance immediately raised red flags. Relatives contacted authorities right away, and the sheriff’s department launched a multi-agency search effort. Officers began canvassing the neighborhood and surrounding desert terrain, an area known for its quiet, upscale homes and secluded properties.

Sheriff Nanos revealed that investigators found “concerning” signs at Nancy’s residence shortly after the missing person report was filed. While details were not fully disclosed, those findings suggested something may have gone wrong inside the home. By Monday, concerns deepened as evidence reportedly pointed toward the possibility that Nancy did not leave voluntarily. Public commentary from legal analyst and crime media personality Nancy Grace further fueled alarm, claiming there were signs of forced entry and stressing that Nancy’s limited mobility made it unlikely she could have wandered far on her own.

Adding to the mystery, a neighbor reportedly told authorities about a suspicious incident that occurred around the same time. According to information shared with TMZ, the neighbor saw a prowler lingering in his yard roughly ten minutes away from the Guthrie home. Although the neighbor could not clearly identify the person and no property damage or theft occurred, investigators are treating the report as a potentially important lead.

As the case has gained attention online, speculation has spread rapidly, including rumors involving members of the Guthrie family. Sheriff Nanos pushed back against one of the more prominent claims, stating that authorities have not identified any suspect or person of interest and that the family is cooperating fully. Police sources also stressed that Savannah Guthrie’s husband is not considered a suspect.

The sheriff’s department has circulated a missing person flyer across social media, urging the public to assist with any information, no matter how small. Authorities have asked anyone with tips to contact the FBI tip line or the Pima County Sheriff’s Department. Meanwhile, national media figures such as Nancy Grace continue to highlight the case, amplifying the urgency. As investigators work closely with the family, the search remains active, and officials insist they are not giving up hope that Nancy Guthrie will be found safe.
