A domestic argument in a small North Texas town ended in fatal gunfire after a woman allegedly shot her husband multiple times, later telling investigators she intended—and hoped—to kill him.

According to court documents obtained by a local television station, Sandy Micheal Williams, 45, was arrested Monday following the death of her husband, Michael C. Thomas, 46, at their home in Bridgeport, Texas. Police were called to the residence around 10 p.m. Sunday after Thomas’s father contacted authorities to report that his son had been fatally shot.

Officers said Williams met them at the front door and complied with commands as they took her into custody. Thomas was found dead inside the home with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

In interviews with investigators, Williams said she and Thomas had been married for three years and had gotten into a verbal argument earlier that night that escalated into physical violence. She told police that Thomas grabbed her by the ponytail and pulled her to the floor before going upstairs, according to the arrest affidavit.

Williams told officers she then retrieved a firearm, followed Thomas upstairs, and shot him. She said she had previously warned her husband that if he ever laid a hand on her, she would make sure it was the last time he ever did so.

When questioned about her actions, Williams made statements that investigators described as unusually direct. “My intent was exactly what I did,” she told police, according to court records. When asked whether she intended to kill Thomas, she reportedly replied, “I absolutely hoped I would.”

Police lights activated on an Evansville Police Department vehicle.

Williams was taken to the Wise County Sheriff’s Office and later charged with murder. She is currently being held at the Wise County Jail on a $50,000 surety bond. A next court date has not been publicly announced.

The case remains under investigation, and authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting.
