Former congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene delivered a stunning rebuke of President Donald Trump this week, declaring that his “Make America Great Again” slogan was a lie and accusing his administration of prioritizing wealthy donors over ordinary Americans.
“I think people are realizing it was all a lie. It was a big lie for the people,” Greene said during a Wednesday interview with radio host Kim Iversen. “What MAGA is really serving in this administration, who they’re serving, is their big donors.”
Greene said those donors receive tangible benefits for their loyalty, while voters are left behind. “The big, big donors that donated all the money and continue to donate to the president’s PACs… those are the people that get the special favors,” she said. “They get the government contracts, they get the pardons, or somebody they love or one of their friends gets a pardon.”
The remarks mark a dramatic break from Greene’s once-unwavering support for Trump. The former Georgia Republican recently resigned from Congress, citing deep divisions within the GOP, concerns over rising health care premiums, and frustration with the party’s direction on the war in Gaza. Her departure followed a public falling-out with Trump and the broader MAGA movement.
Since returning to office, Trump has openly courted wealthy benefactors to fund projects tied to his presidency, including private contributions toward a proposed White House ballroom and events marking the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding. Greene argued those efforts underscore how closely money and access have become intertwined under his leadership.
She also criticized Trump for what she described as an obsession with foreign interests at the expense of domestic priorities. “It’s the foreign countries. They are running the show here,” Greene said. “It’s the major big corporations and what is best for the world.”

Greene went further, condemning U.S. policy toward Gaza and alleging that financial motives were driving global decisions. She claimed innocent civilians were being sacrificed so powerful interests could profit, calling the situation part of what she described as a broader “new world order.”
In the interview, Greene said the MAGA movement has been exposed for what it truly is. “It isn’t really about America or the American people,” she said. “It’s about money, power, and who gets rich.”
