Five months after a headless body was discovered inside a quiet Anaheim home, the woman accused of killing her boyfriend has been returned to the United States to face murder charges.

Alyssa Marie Lira, 23, was extradited from Mexico this week and charged with one count of murder, with a felony enhancement for personally using a weapon, according to prosecutors in Orange County. She is accused of killing her boyfriend, Enrique Gonzalez-Carbajal, 55, whose decapitated body was found inside Lira’s Anaheim residence on August 25, 2025.

Investigators say homicide detectives quickly identified Lira as the primary suspect after the gruesome discovery. By the time authorities closed in, prosecutors allege, she had already fled the country.

Local law enforcement coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Mexican authorities to locate Lira. She was taken into custody on January 22 and transferred back to U.S. authorities the following day at the San Ysidro Port of Entry, one of the busiest border crossings in the nation. Officials have not disclosed where in Mexico she was found.

Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer framed the extradition as a warning to anyone who believes distance or borders can shield them from prosecution.

“Nothing — not time, not distance nor foreign borders — will thwart our pursuit of justice,” Spitzer said in a statement. “Orange County law enforcement will continue to go to the very ends of the Earth to carry out our mission and hold criminals accountable for the heinous acts they commit.”

Spitzer also praised the collaboration between local, federal, and international agencies, calling the case a testament to their persistence in tracking down what he described as a “cold-blooded killer.”

Lira is currently being held without bail at the Orange County Jail. Her arraignment is scheduled for February 13.

Prosecutors have not yet disclosed a motive for the killing. Court records indicate that Lira and Gonzalez-Carbajal had been dating for approximately two months before his death, leaving many questions unanswered as the case moves toward its first court appearance.

The investigation remains ongoing.
