Move over, Karen—there’s a new name under fire! Millennials all over social media are in disbelief as the age-old ‘Karen’ insult gets a fresh, millennial-flavored update: Meet the ‘Jessica.’

Remember when ‘Karen’ exploded into meme stardom? One viral tantrum after another put Karens everywhere on blast for being bossy busybodies, nagging staff, and complaining in public. The term became so widespread that it’s now in the dictionary, reportedly describing those infamous, entitled encounters most Internet-users know all too well.

But don’t get too comfortable, Karens—Gen Z is coming for the next generation. This time, they’ve slapped the ‘Jessica’ label on millennial women they say act clueless or demanding. According to Alexander Cromer, an expert counselor interviewed by Newsweek, the so-called ‘Jessica’ is pegged as a difficult-to-like millennial who’s never shy to air her beef and expects the world to listen.

The Jessicas aren’t staying silent, though. Jessica Blanc, a 38-year-old St. Louis woman who claims ‘peak millennial’ status, couldn’t help but crack up when her husband sent her the scathing headline. ‘I laughed until I cried,’ she joked, insisting, ‘I’ve never yelled for a manager. I just go home and argue with my shower wall for days!’

Blanc took her thoughts to TikTok (@jessblanc87) on January 11, sounding off on her name’s new reputation. ‘Supposedly Jessica is the Karen of millennials now—thanks, Gen Z,’ she quipped, admitting she’s torn between feeling offended or oddly special about the new label.

She poked fun at the name game, asking, ‘Who’s making these decisions? Jessica’s not the only basic name going. Have you met an Ashley?’ Her verdict: It’s all hilarious, and she’s cheering on her name for the free publicity.

Blanc told Newsweek she doubts ‘Jessica’ will ever dethrone ‘Karen’ for good. ‘Our generation is way more chill than Gen X or the Boomers. We’ve survived so much—complaining about a Starbucks order is the least of our worries!’

And Jessicas aren’t the only ones roasting this new stereotype online. Another TikToker, @rnjessicaa, seemed genuinely rattled, asking her followers when Jessica became ground zero for Gen Z eye-rolling. Meanwhile, @mycrazylifewithjess is living her best stereotype, donning a bleach-blonde wig and solemnly declaring, ‘I need the manager—NOW,’ to her followers, poking fun at the whole trend.

While the jury’s still out on whether ‘Jessica’ will stick, one thing’s clear: The Internet’s never short on drama—and anyone named Jessica better brace for impact. More than 12,000 viewers have chimed in on Blanc’s viral video, and the millennial-Jessica saga is just getting started.
