Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is publicly questioning President Donald Trump’s mental fitness, saying his recent behavior has become “increasingly erratic” and alarmingly normalized.
The New York Democrat’s comments follow a week of renewed scrutiny over Trump’s public appearances, including a rambling press briefing marking his first year back in office and a widely criticized address at the World Economic Forum in Davos, where the president repeatedly veered into unrelated tangents. Critics labeled both appearances incoherent, fueling questions about his acuity.

In a brief interview with Pablo Manríquez, editor of Migrant Insider, Ocasio-Cortez drew a sharp contrast between the intense focus placed on Joe Biden’s health during his presidency and what she described as a conspicuous lack of similar attention on Trump.
“His behavior is increasingly erratic and alarming, and everyone is pretending that this is normal,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I don’t really understand why that is. It is very bizarre.”

She argued that the issue extends beyond the president himself, warning that U.S. allies are witnessing not just one individual’s instability, but a broader failure of political accountability. According to Ocasio-Cortez, Trump’s conduct reflects a governing party and institutional apparatus willing to stand by as the president visibly struggles on the world stage.
For European and global partners, she said, the concern is not merely Trump’s performance, but what it signals about the American political system’s tolerance for dysfunction. “They see someone decompensate in front of the world,” she said, “and they see a party doing nothing about it.”
