Chilling scenes in a quiet English suburb as Mandy Wixon, mother of ten, was found guilty of holding a vulnerable woman hostage and forcing her into a life of modern slavery for a staggering 25 years.
The verdict at Gloucester Crown Court has revealed one of the region’s most shocking cases of cruelty and imprisonment in recent memory.
The victim—identified in court documents only as “K”—was snatched from a chaotic family situation in 1996 when she was just sixteen. Handed over to Wixon through a loose family connection, “K” vanished from public sight and essentially became invisible for more than two decades, according to prosecutor Sam Jones. Reports say she spent her days scrubbing Wixon’s filthy house in Tewkesbury and survived on discarded food scraps, unable to leave the premises.

The woman’s ordeal came to light only after Wixon’s own son contacted police with urgent concerns. Officers who entered the home on March 15, 2021, discovered “K” crouched in terror, her bedroom resembling a grim prison cell. Detective Sergeant Alex Pockett described the scene, saying the victim was petrified and physically restrained.
Evidence presented in court was nothing short of harrowing: “K” was allegedly forced to swallow washing-up liquid, had bleach hurled at her face, and endured her head being shaved repeatedly by Wixon. The beatings were routine, including attacks with broom handles—leaving her battered and even missing teeth. Escape was impossible. She was allowed to wash only in secret during the dead of night.

Judge Ian Lawrie slammed the gravity of the abuse, calling it Dickensian in its brutality. Wixon faced charges of false imprisonment, assault causing bodily harm, and compelling forced labor. Despite the damning evidence, Wixon has refused to show remorse, denying all allegations. When confronted outside court, she snapped, “Not a lot,” when asked what she’d say to her victim. When pressed about feeling any guilt, she coolly declared, “No. I never done it.” She even shrugged off being labelled a “monster,” pausing to light a cigarette with remarkable indifference.
After rescue, “K” has begun to rebuild her life: she now lives with a foster family, attends college, and has even enjoyed holidays abroad. Mandy Wixon, meanwhile, has been granted conditional bail and is slated for sentencing on March 12. The town of Tewkesbury remains stunned as locals grapple with the revelations of captivity unfolding behind closed doors.
