A chilling break in a decades-old mystery has rocked the High Desert—25 years after Suzanne Sites-Fenton vanished without a trace, police say they’ve finally caught her killer.

Back in April 2001, the 32-year-old retail worker was just stepping outside for some air from her late shift at the Victorville Mervyn’s store when she disappeared into the night, never to be seen alive again. 

Her worried husband sounded the alarm the next day, and soon detectives were scouring the parking lot, where they found her car abandoned, evidence of a violent struggle still visible. Days later, the horror mounted as Suzanne’s bullet-ridden body turned up in a remote, barren stretch of the Mojave Desert near Hesperia—a place so lonely, it looked like the perfect spot for a killer to dump their secrets. 

Now, nearly a quarter-century later, justice may be within reach. Authorities say fresh eyes from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s cold case unit picked up the trail, leading to a stunning arrest last Thursday. Raymond Silva Gonzalez, 51, from Hesperia, now sits behind bars on murder charges, held with no chance for bail as he waits for his first court showdown this coming Tuesday. Jail records show he hasn’t secured legal representation yet.

Cops say the original investigation uncovered a grisly timeline: Suzanne was abducted from the parking lot, then sexually assaulted and shot before being dumped in the desert.
