A CNN panel meant to discuss legal delays detonated into something far more volatile Monday night, after network regular Scott Jennings cracked a glib remark about the Justice Department’s failure to release the long-promised Jeffrey Epstein files.
As the conversation turned to the DOJ blowing past its deadline, Jennings shrugged off the growing outrage. “They should follow the law,” he said, before adding, “but let’s not get our knickers in a twist here.”
That line landed like a lit match in a gas leak.

Author and political commentator Leigh McGowan immediately talked over him, her voice sharp with disbelief. “Yeah, let’s not get our knickers in a twist over child rape!” she shot back, as Jennings smirked. “Why are you talking like that? It’s insane—like it’s insane!”
Jennings pushed back, feigning confusion. “What’s insane?”
McGowan didn’t pause. Talking straight through his protests, she laid out the stakes he seemed determined to minimize. “The Epstein files are a multinational, multi-generational child and woman sex trafficking ring,” she said. “Your attitude right now—your sort of, well, ‘shucks, devil be gone’—is just horrifying to me.”

She then turned outward, addressing viewers directly. “Every woman in the world who is watching this—why are you acting like you have no idea what is going on? What’s happening here?”
Jennings tried to retreat to process. “You asked me a question about following the law, and I said they should follow the law.”
“They’re not following the law,” McGowan snapped back. “They’re 30 days late following the law.”
“I know you have a strong opinion about it, I respect that,” Jennings offered, attempting to cool the exchange.
McGowan wasn’t interested in de-escalation. “I have a strong opinion about it because it is disgusting,” she said. “They are hiding it. It is not the behavior of innocent people.”
Then came the line that froze the room.
“Everything that is in these files—it could bring an entire house down,” she said. “And if it has to, it has to.”
She made clear no one should be spared. “If it brings down Democrats, bring them down. If it brings down Republicans, bring them down. If it brings down princes, world leaders, Hollywood people—bring them down.”
