Georgia is in shock after two women allegedly played vet in a suburban home, leaving the local cat community reeling.

Camryn Garrard, 27, and Sarah Benefield, 37, now face grave criminal charges after authorities claim they carried out do-it-yourself cat operations—without a hint of a license—right in Benefield’s Newnan residence. The scandal exploded after Douglas County Animal Control got wind of the bizarre events on December 16, sparking a full-blown investigation. Disturbingly, officials say anesthesia may never have been used during the procedures.

At the time of the alleged surgeries, sources reveal Garrard was on staff at West Georgia Mobile Vet, while Benefield had previously been part of their team. The plot thickened when officers quizzed the clinic’s overseeing veterinarian, who insisted he had no clue his employees were moonlighting as feline surgeons behind closed doors. Even more brazen? Someone apparently forged his signature on rabies vaccine records for the unlucky cats—despite his insistence he’d signed nothing of the sort.

The victims, a pair of male cats named Calvin and Klein, ended up back at the vet—this time with legitimate professionals—for much-needed medical attention. Fortunately, both have bounced back and are expected to make full recoveries, according to authorities quoted by Fox5Atlanta. As the dust settles, Garrard and Benefield have allegedly turned themselves in, now cooling their heels in Coweta County Jail as the drama continues to unfold.
