Tempers flared in the press briefing room as Karoline Leavitt, President Trump’s press secretary, erupted at a reporter quizzing her over ICE’s grim track record.

With 32 deaths recorded in immigration custody this year—the worst figures in 20 years—and the shocking killing of Renee Good at the hands of an ICE officer, journalists demanded answers. But Leavitt was having none of it.

When pushed by Niall Stanage from The Hill about Homeland Security’s declarations that enforcement agencies are doing everything right, despite mounting casualties and citizen arrests, Leavitt dodged and struck back: ‘Are you asking me my opinion? Because an ICE agent acted recklessly and killed her unjustifiably.’ Clearly irritated, she launched a fiery tirade: ‘You’re just a biased left-wing hack, parading as a journalist. The slant in your question says it all.’

Leavitt didn’t hold back, accusing not just Stanage but the entire press corps of spinning the story and masquerading as impartial reporters. ‘You shouldn’t even be sitting in this chair,’ she snapped, labeling her critics as ‘activists’ more than journalists, and shaming the media for what she called ‘crooked, biased views.’

Instead of discussing ICE’s troubled year—a string of deaths in custody, dozens of questionable arrests, and the high-profile killing—Leavitt fiercely pivoted, insisting reporters should focus on ‘the innocent Americans being killed by illegal aliens.’ She defended the agency, proclaiming, ‘ICE’s brave men and women are working tirelessly to rid the country of dangerous criminals and protect our citizens.’

The heated exchange didn’t end there. Leavitt was also grilled over President Trump’s latest eyebrow-raising comments—making light of canceling elections, claiming, ‘We shouldn’t even have midterms this year’ in a bombshell interview with Reuters. The president has repeatedly sounded the alarm about a Democrat-controlled Congress threatening his agenda, floating impeachment fears and discarding the usual political script.

One thing’s clear: this White House doesn’t just clash with the press—they go to war. As reporters pressed for accountability on tragic deaths and controversial statements, Leavitt took the offensive, turning what could have been a policy discussion into a jaw-dropping, no-holds-barred media smackdown. Welcome to Washington’s new cage match.
