Tragedy struck a Florida family days before Christmas as a heated squabble over Monday Night Football turned deadly, leaving a mother dead and her children traumatized.

Crystal Kenney, just 38, was fatally shot by her husband, Jason Kenney, in their Polk County home after a blazing argument ignited over control of the TV. Sources close to the family say Crystal was enjoying an episode of ‘Percy Jackson,’ while Jason, glued to his beloved San Francisco 49ers in a backyard shed, barged in demanding the channel be switched for the game’s final quarter.

As tempers flared, chaos unraveled—Crystal quickly sent her 12-year-old son sprinting to a neighbor’s house to dial 911, sacrificing her own safety to protect her children. According to Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd, Jason unleashed gunfire, tragically killing Crystal and then turning the weapon on his 13-year-old stepdaughter, shooting her in the face and shoulder. Miraculously, the teen survived, with the bullet traveling through her nose and exiting her head. Judd hailed it as a “Christmas miracle.”

Crystal’s older sister, Stephanie Roure, spoke out in an emotional interview with USA Today, hailing her sister’s actions as true heroism. “She died fighting for her kids. If it weren’t for Crystal’s quick thinking, it could’ve been three funerals,” Stephanie said. The youngest child, just a baby, was left physically unharmed amidst the carnage.

Police tape off a crime scene, Saturday, July 6, 2024, on the 2600 block of Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Ky.

After the horrific attack, Jason fled to his father’s former residence where he took his own life, bringing the bloody ordeal to an end. The surviving daughter described her harrowing experience to Inside Edition, recalling her desperate pleas for mercy as Jason aimed the gun at her. “I begged, ‘Don’t shoot me!’ before he pulled the trigger,” she recounted.

What was supposed to be a festive holiday for the Kenney family was shattered in an instant over a trivial argument. Now, loved ones remember Crystal Kenney not just as a victim, but as a mother who made the ultimate sacrifice to save her children.
