A woman was arrested last week after a violent confrontation inside a Harris County gym allegedly escalated into an aggravated assault involving a weighted plate, authorities said.

According to the Harris County Constable Precinct 4, the incident occurred on January 7, 2026, at a 24 Hour Fitness – Lake Plaza Drive location. Deputies were called to the scene following reports of an assault in progress.

Investigators said the suspect, Aralyn Martinez, confronted another woman at the gym after recognizing her as someone involved with her boyfriend. What began as a verbal encounter quickly turned physical, deputies said.

During the altercation, Martinez allegedly picked up a weighted plate and threw it at the complainant’s head in an apparent attempt to cause serious injury. Authorities did not immediately release information on whether the victim required medical treatment.

Deputies took Martinez into custody at the scene. She was later booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of aggravated assault.

“Aralyn Martinez was arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Aggravated Assault,” said Mark Herman in a statement. “Her bond was set at $1,000 out of the 488th District Court.”

The case remains under investigation. Deputies have not said whether additional charges could be filed or if surveillance footage from inside the gym will be used as evidence.
