Deadly drama unfolded in Lake City this Monday morning when a woman was gunned down inside her own home—allegedly by a mystery man lurking in the shadows.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office hit the streets hunting for an armed intruder after a frantic call at 10:45 a.m. sent deputies racing to a complex on SW Michigan Street. The harrowing scene: the woman, shot and bleeding, was found sprawled in her yard. Authorities quickly whisked her to safety, transferring her into a patrol car before meeting EMS crews en route to hospital care.

The shocking twist? The victim had just returned from a shopping spree, only to be confronted by a towering figure clad head to toe in black—right inside her apartment. According to investigators, the unknown assailant opened fire before vanishing into thin air.
Law enforcement from across the region swarmed the area, locking things down as a massive manhunt got underway. SWAT teams from both Columbia and neighboring Suwannee County stormed the residence, but the gunman had already slipped away. Residents were urged to shelter in place as authorities combed through the neighborhood.
At this hour, the victim’s condition remains a mystery, and police have been tight-lipped on suspect details. Deputies are now begging locals around SW Marion St., SW Ponce De Leon Ave., SW Michigan St., and SW Maryland Ln. to scour their security cameras and dash cams for any trace of the fleeing suspect.
