Drama exploded in a quiet Riverside, Ohio neighborhood when a fight between roommates turned deadly—and the aftermath was just as shocking.
On January 17, 2025, police rushed to a home in the 4700 block of Opperman Avenue after shots rang out in the basement. Halle Harvey, just 26, is now facing the consequences after admitting she shot her housemate, Shyanne Mitchell, 30, square in the head during a furious basement brawl.

According to Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr., the two women lived together with their boyfriends, but tempers boiled over that afternoon. Witnesses told police the argument quickly crossed the line—first it was shouting, then fists flew. That’s when Harvey stormed upstairs, reportedly grabbed a 9mm pistol, and charged back down to settle things once and for all.
Within minutes, a gunshot echoed through the house, leaving Mitchell fatally wounded and everyone present in disbelief. Cops arrived just after 3 p.m. to an unforgettable scene: Harvey, apparently stunned by what had happened, emerged from the house with her hands raised, scratches visible on her face and chest.
What happened next stunned even the officers. As she was being cuffed, Harvey, caught between panic and disbelief, repeatedly claimed she hadn’t meant to pull the trigger. She peppered police with questions—including a request straight out of today’s headlines: could she take a quick vape hit before heading off to jail? She also anxiously asked if she was looking at life behind bars.
Harvey ultimately struck a plea deal, confessing to voluntary manslaughter—spared from harsher charges of murder and assault, which were tossed out, according to court filings reviewed by Law&Crime. She’ll learn her fate when she’s sentenced on January 26.
Meanwhile, Mitchell’s loved ones are heartbroken, describing her in her obituary as an irreplaceable soul—”a radiant spirit” who brightened every life she touched. The 30-year-old mother is remembered for her boundless love, creativity, and warmth, leaving a hole that can never be filled.
