Capitol Hill drama erupted after the shocking death of Renee Nicole Good, 37, at the hands of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in Minneapolis. In the latest twist, Democrats have set their sights on Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, vowing to force her from her powerful post.

Illinois lawmaker Robin Kelly led the charge on Wednesday, unleashing a blistering statement and vowing to oust Noem. ‘Kristi Noem’s abysmal ICE leadership has become a danger to the American public,’ thundered Rep. Kelly, citing ‘total chaos’ under Noem’s watch.

Good’s fatal shooting on January 7 by ICE officer Jonathan E. Ross, named in legal filings, has thrown gasoline on simmering anger about federal immigration enforcement. Minneapolis activists, furious over Good’s death, are demanding accountability and an overhaul of ICE’s use-of-force policies.

Rep. Kelly has drawn up three explosive impeachment charges against Noem: thwarting Congressional investigations, betraying the public’s confidence, and self-enrichment. The Democrat from Illinois blamed Noem for greenlighting reckless ICE operations nationwide. ‘First, Noem devastated Chicago. Now, Minneapolis is reeling from her brutal enforcement tactics,’ Kelly declared, promising to take her crusade to the House floor immediately.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, the ICE agent opened fire after Good allegedly attempted to hit law enforcement with her car—a claim that’s only increased calls for a deeper probe.

Outspoken Illinois Congresswoman Delia Ramirez is demanding Noem resign or face certain impeachment, slamming her at a heated December hearing. Arizona rep Yassamin Ansari has wasted no time joining as a co-sponsor of Kelly’s impeachment bid. Meanwhile, Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi (Illinois) pledged online support, insisting Noem answer for ICE’s actions. The push extends beyond Congress, with New Jersey candidate Brian Varela also urging Noem’s immediate removal after the Minneapolis shooting.

Despite the uproar, odds are slim that the House and Senate will muster the numbers needed to boot a Cabinet official, unless a wave of Republicans break ranks. History says it’s a stretch.

U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem reviewed the department’s efforts during the first nine months of the administration at a news conference in Bradenton, Florida on Oct. 20, 2025.

The Trump camp, including President Trump himself, VP JD Vance, and Secretary Noem, have been quick to defend Agent Ross, insisting the shooting was justified—sparking outrage from civil rights advocates, local leaders, and Democrats demanding an independent investigation.

The FBI has stepped in to untangle what happened in Minneapolis. Minnesota’s Bureau of Criminal Apprehension initially planned to join federal authorities in searching for answers, but reportedly withdrew after the FBI rejected their involvement. The nation now watches as the political battle for accountability barrels forward at full speed.
