Tragedy struck the quiet streets of Anderson, Indiana, when a mother’s late-night fears ended in unthinkable disaster.
Tia Holmes, 38, finds herself locked up and facing a slew of serious charges after allegedly gunning down her own daughter, Tianna Harris, just days after Christmas.
The shocking incident unfolded on December 28, 2025, at a home on West 38th Street — about an hour northeast of Indianapolis. Prosecutors have slapped Holmes with accusations of reckless homicide and neglect, claiming her paranoia over her ex-husband’s possible break-in led to the fatal shooting.
Sources close to the family painted a chilling picture of Holmes’s mental state. According to her surviving child, Holmes often prowled the house wielding a firearm, convinced she’d seen mysterious figures lurking in the shadows. “She’s always talking about shadows and thinking someone’s inside,” the sibling told detectives, adding that Holmes couldn’t stop herself from constantly investigating phantom threats.

On the night Tianna lost her life, Holmes’s suspicions were at an all-time high. Another witness recalled Holmes creeping through the house, insisting, “I think he’s here, someone’s in the house.” Despite reassurances that everything was fine, Holmes reportedly refused to relax. When the witness eventually drifted off to sleep, a single, deafening shot tore through the night.
The aftermath was heartbreaking. Rushing to the source of the explosion, the witness found Tianna grievously wounded. Holmes sobbed, “Oh my god, I didn’t know it was her — I thought he was breaking in!” Authorities later learned Holmes had taken out a protective order against her ex-husband, fueling her fears that he might show up unannounced.

During questioning, Holmes admitted she’d nodded off in the living room but bolted awake when a suspicious sound echoed from the back of the house. Instinct drove her to snatch the handgun stashed beneath her mattress, performing a sweep for intruders. What she saw in the darkness turned out to be her own daughter — and one mistaken, fatal pull of the trigger left the family shattered. Holmes now faces the prospect of years behind bars, haunted by what her paranoia destroyed forever.
