The Kennedy clan is mourning a heartbreaking loss: Tatiana Schlossberg, granddaughter of President John F. Kennedy, has died at only 35, mere weeks after revealing her battle with aggressive cancer.
The devastating announcement came Tuesday via the JFK Library Foundation, with a sorrowful message: “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.” Grieving family members—including husband George Moran, young children Eddie (3) and Josie (1), parents Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and siblings Jack and Rose—joined together in tribute. Rose’s wife, Rory McAuliffe, also mourned alongside the family.
The Kennedy legacy is shaken by the sudden loss of Tatiana, who bravely disclosed her diagnosis of a rare, fast-spreading form of acute myeloid leukemia—an illness typically found in older adults—in an emotional essay for The New Yorker, published November 22. The date marked the 62nd anniversary of JFK’s assassination. Reflecting on the shock that shattered her world just after the birth of her daughter this May, Tatiana wrote, “I did not—could not—believe that they were talking about me. I had swum a mile in the pool the day before, nine months pregnant. I wasn’t sick. I didn’t feel sick.”

Doctors detected elevated white blood cells only hours following the delivery, initially brushing it off as a quirk of pregnancy, before the grim diagnosis of leukemia was confirmed. In poignant words, Tatiana shared fears that her children would grow up remembering only fragments of her—a concern echoed in her stark admission: “My son might have a few memories, but he’ll probably start confusing them with pictures he sees or stories he hears. I didn’t ever really get to take care of my daughter—I couldn’t change her diaper or give her a bath or feed her, all because of the risk of infection after my transplants…”
Her cousin, Maria Shriver, honored her cousin’s indomitable spirit in an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter): “Tatiana was a great journalist, and she used her words to educate others about the earth and how to save it. She fought like a warrior. She was valiant, strong, courageous. Those of us left behind will make sure Eddie and Josie know what a beautiful, courageous spirit their mother was and will always be.”
A rising journalist, wife, and loving mother, Tatiana’s story is one of courage, intellect, and heartbreak—a bright light extinguished too soon from America’s most storied family.
