Shockwaves hit Wilmington, Delaware, late Sunday when Linda Stevenson—the current wife of Bill Stevenson, who once walked down the aisle with First Lady Jill Biden—was found lifeless in her own living room.
Local authorities were drawn to the Oak Hill neighborhood just after 11 p.m. following a frantic 911 call about a heated domestic incident. Once inside, New Castle County Police discovered Linda, 64, unresponsive where she sat. Desperate attempts to revive her failed, and tragedy was declared at the scene. The medical examiner is slated to determine the official cause behind her untimely death.

An intriguing connection: Bill Stevenson, her grieving husband, famously split with Jill Biden over four decades ago. The current First Lady tied the knot with Stevenson back in 1970 when she was still a co-ed. The couple’s marriage crumbled just five years later, setting the stage for Jill’s 1977 wedding to future president Joe Biden, just two years after her divorce was finalized.
Tabloids are buzzing thanks to TMZ’s scoop: Bill Stevenson himself allegedly dialed 911 and is currently cooperating with investigators. At this moment, authorities haven’t pressed any charges.
Those familiar with Biden family history will recall Jill’s first marriage rarely saw daylight—details remain scant. According to her biographer Julie Pace, Jill entered her first union wide-eyed and perhaps a touch naïve, only to be disillusioned by marital reality. “It really stung her,” Pace recounted in 2022.

Election-year drama erupted in 2020, when Bill Stevenson challenged the story of how the future First Couple met, insisting Jill crossed paths with Joe while volunteering on a local campaign in 1972—a tale at odds with the official account that cites Joe’s brother Frank as matchmaker after Jill’s earlier split. Stevenson even accused Jill of straying during their marriage, an allegation the Biden camp promptly denied.
But Stevenson’s name has floated through more than one headline. In 2021, he was thrust into the spotlight during the probe into Kathie Durst’s mysterious 1982 disappearance; Stevenson admitted to an affair with Kathie weeks before she vanished and claimed Robert Durst, her husband, confronted him over the affair. Stevenson declared, “I feel like I’m the missing link in the case.” Robert Durst, notorious for past criminal trials, died in custody in 2022 after being convicted of murdering Susie Berman the previous year.
With tragedy now striking the Stevenson household yet again, Wilmington cops continue piecing together what really happened behind closed doors on that fateful Sunday night.
