The popular fitness app Strava has fired a senior employee after she was arrested and filmed drunkenly attacking staff at an upscale San Francisco restaurant — a chaotic scene that played out in full view of stunned diners and quickly went viral worldwide.

San Francisco police identified the woman as Shireen Afkari, who worked as a senior manager of growth marketing and retention at Strava, according to her now-deleted LinkedIn profile. Afkari was detained for public intoxication after an explosive confrontation at Hazie’s, a restaurant in the city’s Hayes Valley neighborhood, where staff say she became violent after being refused further alcohol service.

Video of the incident, posted to TikTok by Hazie’s employees, shows Afkari shouting, swearing, slurring her words and physically attacking staff as they repeatedly ask her to leave. At one point, she appears to spot the camera filming her, lunges forward, and strikes it.

Strava confirmed Wednesday that Afkari is no longer employed by the company.

“We are aware of an employee who exhibited extremely concerning off-hours behavior,” the company said in a statement posted to Instagram. “We don’t condone violence of any kind and this does not reflect the standards we expect of our team. This past Monday, we made the decision to end the individual’s employment.”

According to bartender Miguel Marchese, who spoke to KRON4, the chaos began shortly after Afkari and a man accompanying her arrived around 9 p.m. Staff quickly became concerned about the pair’s level of intoxication.

“The server verbalized to me that she could tell that her table was not only intoxicated, but perhaps on some other substances,” Marchese said. “They were being quite verbally abrasive.”

After a manager intervened, cocktails were removed from the table and the couple was asked to leave. That’s when the situation escalated.

“He retracts her cocktails from the table,” Marchese said. “And then later, it just kind of spiraled into chaos.”

The viral footage shows Afkari at the bar, holding her phone aloft and taunting employees, calling one a liar and hurling profanity. In a second angle of the video, she appears to physically attack a restaurant employee, drawing gasps from diners — including a large group seated for what appeared to be a Christmas dinner.

As staff attempted to escort her out, Afkari was pushed to the floor, got back up, and began flailing toward employees again. Diners can be heard whooping and cheering as staff finally force both Afkari and the man she was with out the front doors.

But the violence didn’t stop there.

Outside, the video shows Afkari bucking and kicking as Marchese and others try to move her away from the entrance. She grabs Marchese by the hair and refuses to let go.

“She wraps my hair around her hand and just pulls on it for dear life,” he said. “It was quite painful.”

Marchese said she only released him after he took her phone and tossed it away to distract her.

“I threw it like throwing a bone at a dog that’s attacking you,” he said.

Even then, Afkari ran back toward the restaurant before being tripped by a bystander and falling hard to the pavement. As she got back up, she appeared to berate her partner, yelling that he wasn’t “man enough,” while the man half-heartedly shoved staff members.

Police eventually arrived and arrested Afkari, taking her to San Francisco County Jail.

Marchese said the incident was extreme — but sadly familiar to those who work in hospitality.

“People who work in hospitality go through a lot,” he said. “I’ve been spat on, I’ve been slapped at a bar before, called homophobic slurs, sexualized by guests. It just happens. You move on.”
