A Sarasota County woman has landed behind bars after allegedly pulling off a jaw-dropping scheme that siphoned over $64,000 from an unsuspecting senior citizen. Tiffany Lynn Blair, 31, a Nokomis resident, stands accused of a string of felonies, including grand theft targeting an elderly person, identity fraud, and exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Venice police say Blair latched onto her victim—a local woman collecting Social Security—over the past four years. Authorities claim Blair, connected through a man living with the victim, regularly collected the older woman’s mail and took full advantage of the trust—and the bank account.
The plot allegedly kicked off back in 2021, when the elderly victim set up a checking account at Wells Fargo to manage her Social Security deposits. But the drama began when, according to police, Blair arranged for a debit card to be issued to the account—despite the victim never requesting one. Investigators allege Blair spun a tale about the account having been frozen in a previous scam, weaving herself deeper into the victim’s affairs under the guise of assistance.

Detectives uncovered a staggering paper trail: nearly $2,000 blown on DoorDash, a lavish five-night stay at the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota totaling $11,500, and a whopping $7,000 splurged on an Audi rental. Blair’s name was allegedly plastered on hotel bills for room service, spa treatments, and valet fees—all paid straight from the victim’s funds. Even recurring payments traced back to accounts in Blair’s name.
The victim, who police say thought Blair was simply helping with financial chores and legal papers, was further duped by emails claiming to be from her bank and even an attorney. In reality, detectives say, these communications were all linked right back to Blair’s own contact info.
The alleged scam finally caught up to Blair. She was arrested on December 11 and remains locked up in the Sarasota County Jail on a hefty $152,500 bond. The investigation, and the ripple effects for vulnerable seniors, are ongoing.
