A shocking twist has emerged in the bizarre case of Celine Cremer, the Belgian adventurer who vanished without a trace in Tasmania’s wild backcountry. After more than two years of desperate searching and unanswered questions, her missing phone has been uncovered in a remote waterfall area, sending investigators back into the dense rainforest where she was last seen.
According to authorities, relatives and friends of Cremer, refusing to give up hope, organized their own boots-on-the-ground mission this past weekend. That determination paid off in dramatic fashion on Saturday when her cell phone was discovered at Philosopher Falls—a scenic yet treacherous spot cloaked in thick greenery and mist. Incredibly, it’s the first solid clue to surface since her Nissan SUV was located abandoned just days after her final sighting in Waratah back in June 2023.

Tasmania Police moved quickly to confirm the find, revealing they will conduct a thorough forensic analysis of the device in hopes it may shed light on Cremer’s last movements. Officers have now officially joined the renewed search, spurred by the evidence.

Cremer, 31, had planned what should have been a simple nature outing on June 17, 2023. Instead, she vanished in the unforgiving landscape of northwestern Tasmania. It wasn’t until June 26 that her worried friends contacted police, who immediately launched search and rescue efforts—only to be hampered by a brutal spell of winter. Temperatures plunged below zero, snow blanketed the forest, and relentless rains battered search teams.
Inspector Andrew Hanson, speaking for police, said at the time even medical professionals gave grim predictions about Cremer’s chances given the harsh elements and how long she’d been missing.
While hope of finding Cremer alive had all but faded, the discovery of her phone has reignited questions and reignited the hunt for answers in one of Australia’s most puzzling wilderness disappearances.
