Grimes says her former partner Elon Musk, the father of her three children, has blocked her on social media, adding another chapter to the increasingly public tension between the two over co-parenting and privacy.

The 37-year-old musician, born Claire Boucher, addressed the situation after a fan on X noticed that she and Musk were no longer following each other on the platform. Grimes confirmed that she does not follow Musk, but said the decision was not hers. According to her response, Musk had followed her before ultimately blocking her.

Grimes dismissed the situation as trivial, emphasizing that she has no interest in engaging in online drama. She said her only priority is co-parenting their children and suggested that speculation over social media behavior was being blown out of proportion.

Grimes and Musk were first linked romantically in 2018, after an online interaction revealed they had independently made the same joke about artificial intelligence. Their unconventional relationship quickly drew public attention, blending Silicon Valley celebrity with experimental pop culture. In 2020, they welcomed their first child, X Æ A-Xii, often referred to as Lil X.

Although the pair announced their split in 2021, their relationship continued to evolve. Later that year, they welcomed a second child, Exa Dark Sideræl, via surrogate. In June 2022, a third child, TechnoMechanicus, was born, also through a surrogate. Since then, Grimes has been vocal about wanting to keep their children out of the public spotlight.

Over the past year, Grimes has repeatedly used her X account to express concern about her children’s privacy and the long-term consequences of growing up online. In March, she responded to a follower asking what steps she was taking to protect her children from misinformation and public exposure. Grimes said she does not control the internet and has unsuccessfully tried to persuade both the public and her children’s father to keep them offline.

She also said she had attempted legal avenues but found little protection under current laws. Grimes described the lack of privacy safeguards for young children as alarming, saying she worries daily about the impact of constant exposure on her family. She characterized the modern media environment as a “Wild West” where privacy is rapidly eroding and legal remedies feel inadequate.

Those concerns intensified earlier this year when Musk brought their four-year-old son, Lil X, into the Oval Office during a high-profile appearance as President Donald Trump signed an executive order expanding the powers of the Department of Government Efficiency. Grimes publicly criticized the moment, arguing that it placed her child in an unnecessary political spotlight.

The apparent social media block comes against that backdrop, reflecting what appears to be an ongoing disconnect between the former couple over how visible their children should be. While Musk frequently shares aspects of his personal and professional life with millions of followers, Grimes has consistently argued for stricter boundaries when it comes to their family.
