Bombshell probe rocks Capitol Hill as Trump’s former border chief, Tom Homan, spills the beans on Newsmax: firebrand Congresswoman Ilhan Omar is in the crosshairs of a federal immigration fraud investigation. Homan, who helped steer Trump’s hardline border policies, revealed Monday that a top fraud detective from Homeland Security

Investigations personally filled him in on the explosive case. ‘I just got word from a trusted fraud investigator—it looks like there was immigration fraud here,’ Homan told Newsmax host. ‘We’re pulling files, digging into records right now. This investigator—one of the best in the business—said he’s certain the file needs scrutiny. I’m chasing leads this very week, so stay tuned,’ Homan teased.

U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) greets the crowd during a town hall at Cane Ridge High School in Antioch, Tenn., Saturday, July 12, 2025.

The heat stems from swirling rumors long fanned by Trump himself, who again accused Omar of marrying her own brother to game the immigration system—a sensational charge Omar has vigorously denied for years. Yes, you read that right! During a recent rally, Trump hurled a string of insults: ‘Ilhan Omar, whatever the hell her name is, comes to our country and does nothing but complain. She married her brother just to get in.’ His remarks, laced with mockery and invective, ignited outrage as usual.

Omar, born in war-torn Somalia in 1982, endured a harrowing childhood: her family escaped violence, survived four years in Kenyan refugee camps, and finally landed in America as asylees in 1995. By 17, she was a naturalized U.S. citizen—before becoming the first Somali-American elected to Congress. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Omar blasted back: ‘Trump’s obsession with me is beyond weird. The man needs help. Lacking any real policies, he just repeats racist lies. He remains a national embarrassment.’

Reached for comment, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin made clear to Newsweek, ‘DHS treats every marriage fraud allegation with utmost seriousness. Our warning to the public: fake marriages could lead to hefty fines, jail, and even deportation. We work tirelessly to uphold the integrity of America’s immigration system.’

Under Trump, immigration crackdowns have been a centerpiece. New numbers show Homeland Security’s enforcement actions have booted more than 605,000 people since January 2021, and nearly 1.9 million have left voluntarily. The pressure on Omar—and the explosive headlines—are sure to keep Washington buzzing as the investigation unfolds.
