A high-stakes search for an 8-year-old girl in Round Rock, Texas, took a jaw-dropping turn this weekend, as authorities revealed the entire ordeal was a carefully orchestrated hoax aimed at sidestepping a court-ordered custody deal.
The drama began late Friday night when 43-year-old Cailin Larissa Doyle frantically dialed 911, claiming her daughter Cadence Doyle had vanished from their home, sparking widespread panic. Local law enforcement, joined by K9 squads, ATVs, drones, the Texas Rangers, and even the FBI, flooded into the area, scouring neighborhoods and fields through the night in a desperate search for the missing child.

But cracks appeared in Doyle’s account almost immediately. The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office admitted that detectives were suspicious from the get-go. By Saturday afternoon, the truth came crashing down: Cadence was found unharmed at a gas station off Interstate 35—after allegedly being dumped there by none other than Doyle’s close associate, 36-year-old Karinna Ann Robertson.
Officials now allege that Doyle and Robertson cooked up the scheme to hide Cadence in a desperate bid to block the girl’s father from seeing her, blatantly violating their shared custody arrangement. Commander John Foster of the Sheriff’s Office CID didn’t mince words, stating, “This was a deliberate attempt to thwart the legal process and misuse law enforcement resources.”
After dozens of officers, search teams, and a full-scale emergency response had been scrambled, investigators swiftly tracked down the truth. Both Doyle and Robertson were hauled off to the Williamson County Jail facing a laundry list of charges. Doyle faces two felony counts—unlawful restraint and interfering with child custody—plus a misdemeanor for filing a bogus missing child report. Robertson wasn’t spared either; she’s now on the hook for three felonies, including child abandonment, unlawful restraint, and meddling with custody.

Sheriff Matt Lindemann slammed the stunt, highlighting the massive diversion of resources for what turned out to be nothing more than a custody-related ruse. “Incidents like this waste critical assets and put our community at unnecessary risk,” he fumed.
Miraculously, young Cadence appeared safe and sound through the ordeal, but her mother and her mother’s friend face serious legal payback for their elaborate charade. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities piece together the full timeline of this bizarre custody caper.
