A California woman whose 2017 drunk-driving livestream drew national outrage has been killed in a drive-by shooting in Stockton.

Obdulia Sanchez died Tuesday, Dec. 2, after gunfire erupted on a Stockton street, according to reports from KCRA, KSEE and ABC 10. The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office said the attack was a drive-by shooting. Another person was wounded, and investigators have not announced any arrests.

Police lights activated on an Evansville Police Department vehicle.

Sanchez, who was 18 at the time of the crash that made headlines seven years ago, served prison time for gross vehicular manslaughter, DUI and child endangerment. The 2017 crash killed her 14-year-old sister, Jacqueline. Sanchez had been livestreaming on Instagram as she drove drunk, and kept filming even after both were ejected from the car.

In the footage, Sanchez cried out, “I [expletive] killed my sister, okay… I know I’m going to jail for life.” Prosecutors said neither sister wore a seatbelt when the car slammed into a fence.

At her 2018 sentencing, Sanchez described the guilt that consumed her. “Why did God choose me to be the older sister?” she told the court. “I had so much potential, but I threw it all away because I wanted to look cool and drive carelessly.”

She was released on parole in 2019, though she was re-arrested later that year.
