Drama at an Idaho campground turned deadly when Melissa Calumpit, 36, admitted to fatally shooting her on-again-off-again husband, Travis Calumpit, 37, in July 2024—a shocking reversal after days of deception and conflicting tales. Authorities say Melissa, at first, stuck to her story: Travis’ death had nothing to do with her. But the Canyon County Sheriff’s Office wasn’t buying it—especially after investigators unearthed bombshell dash cam footage in Travis’ truck that blew her alibi to pieces.

The saga started on July 12, when Travis rolled into Martin’s Landing in Parma, Idaho, hoping for a fresh start with Melissa. Their romance had been anything but steady—they married in 2010, split in 2018, then tied the knot again in 2020. But by spring 2024, Melissa had fled their home over allegations that Travis mistreated their kids, according to police.

Deputies soon found Travis dead at the campsite. Suspicion locked onto Melissa, who spun a web of excuses—ranging from blaming bad weather for missing their rendezvous, to painting Travis as an abuser. It didn’t help her case when she inadvertently revealed details that the public didn’t know.

The real twist came when investigators watched Travis’ dash cam. While the video didn’t show the shooting itself, it placed Melissa at the scene during the critical moments—sending her web of lies crashing down. Confronted with the evidence, Melissa finally admitted she shot Travis. But her justification was dramatic: she claimed self-defense after an alleged sexual assault, shifting blame and motives again and again, according to affidavits.

Her mother, Rosalie Morris, also became tangled in the investigation, as Melissa insisted they’d planned to meet Travis together. But with the dash cam and inconsistent stories, police painted Melissa’s confession as the culmination of shifting narratives and mounting evidence. The tangled relationship, the deadly confrontation, and the relentless pursuit of the truth have turned this Idaho murder into headline fodder that’s as gripping as it is tragic.
