Drama is swirling around Weezer bassist Scott Shriner as his wife, author and activist Jillian Lauren, has reportedly decided to pull the plug on their marriage—less than a year after a tense armed encounter with Los Angeles police. Court documents filed this Tuesday show Lauren is seeking a split after nearly two decades with Shriner, whom she married in 2005.

Sources say Lauren is citing irreparable differences as the reason, and she wants the court to grant her spousal support — but is also asking the judge to block Shriner from requesting any money from her. The couple have two children together, aged 17 and 13, and Lauren’s petition requests joint custody. Details about a prenuptial agreement remain a mystery, and neither party has officially spoken out on the divorce.

Police lights activated on an Evansville Police Department vehicle.

Fans may remember Lauren from a headline-making incident in April when LAPD officers, in pursuit of hit-and-run suspects, stormed her Eagle Rock neighborhood. Security camera footage captured the moment Lauren, decked out in a Weezer tee, confronted police with a gun outside her home. Officers repeatedly shouted for her to drop the weapon in a heart-stopping standoff that lasted over two minutes. One officer warned, “You’re going to get shot. It’s the police! California Highway Patrol!” Moments later, police opened fire, hitting Lauren in the shoulder after she allegedly racked the gun at them.

Afterward, 911 audio was released, with an unidentified caller reporting three men and a shooting. In the background, Lauren could be heard insisting she was holding her firearm as police ordered her to put it down—before chaos erupted. Lauren was initially arrested and booked for attempted murder of a cop, slapped with a $1 million bail. Prosecutors later reduced the charges to assault with a firearm and negligent discharge.

The shocking legal saga took another twist when Lauren managed to avoid time behind bars. She was granted mental health diversion by the court and must now attend therapy and stay away from firearms. If she meets the program’s requirements, charges will ultimately be wiped from her record.

To top it off, Lauren revealed on social media that she had been recovering from cancer, including two surgeries—one a hysterectomy—mere weeks before her explosive standoff with police.
