A Texas woman is facing a long list of charges after authorities say she drove drunk with her six children in the car and slammed into a pole on the side of a major San Antonio roadway. Brittany Winston, 31, was arrested on 14 counts, including intoxication assault and multiple charges of injury to a child, following the weekend crash on Binz-Engleman Road.
Deputies with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office responded around 1:40 p.m. Friday after callers reported a heavily damaged Ford Explorer and several injured children scattered inside and outside the vehicle. According to an incident report, Winston had been driving at a high rate of speed when the SUV drifted out of its lane and struck a pole along the roadway’s edge.

The children, ranging from ages 2 to 12, were transported to a nearby hospital alongside their mother. Authorities say an 11-year-old girl remains in critical condition but the other children and Winston were treated and later released. Investigators began piecing together what led to the crash, turning first to forensic data from the vehicle itself. According to the sheriff’s office, the SUV was traveling more than 20 miles per hour over the posted 45-mph limit—and no one inside the car was wearing a seat belt.
Hospital staff also reported that Winston’s blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, and toxicology tests detected controlled substances as well, though officials have not confirmed which ones. That information, combined with witness accounts and crash reconstruction data, led investigators to formally accuse Winston of driving intoxicated with all six children in the vehicle.
Winston is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 25, but this is not her first brush with the law behind the wheel. According to local reports, she was already expected in court this week for a separate crash in November 2024. Records also show her driver’s license was revoked or suspended in 2013 before eventually being reinstated.
The sheriff’s office says its investigation into the weekend crash is ongoing. For now, Winston is being held on a $600,000 bond as one child continues fighting for her life and the community once again confronts the steep toll of impaired driving.
