A Florida woman is facing an attempted murder charge after police say an argument over cellphone photos exploded into violence inside her Miami apartment. According to an arrest report, 49-year-old Liz Frechel used a machete to attack her boyfriend during a confrontation that began at a Texas Roadhouse restaurant.
The couple were eating dinner Thursday night when the boyfriend reportedly noticed pictures on Frechel’s phone that showed her hugging and holding hands with another man. He walked out of the restaurant, leaving Frechel behind, and later returned to her apartment to drop off some of her belongings.
Police say he intended to leave the items outside on an air conditioning unit but realized he’d mistakenly left his car keys with them. When he came back for the keys, Frechel had already brought everything inside. As he tried to get into the apartment, she attempted to slam the door on him.
According to the report, the boyfriend eventually made it inside and spotted his keys on her bed. Once in the bedroom, he told officers, Frechel locked the door behind him and said, “You are not going anywhere, you [expletive]. You’re going to pay.” She then went into her closet and pulled out a machete.
The boyfriend attempted to grab his keys and bolt, but Frechel allegedly swung the blade at him, slicing his right elbow as she shouted, “I’m going to kill you, you [expletive]!” Bleeding heavily, he escaped the apartment and ran to his car, driving himself to a hospital where doctors treated a deep laceration.
A neighbor later told police she heard a woman screaming, objects being thrown, and a man crying before seeing him run out of the apartment.
Officers tried to contact Frechel that night but got no response. When police returned Friday with a search warrant, she was taken into custody. According to the arrest report, Frechel refused to give a statement after being read her rights.
She is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Frechel faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. Her next court appearance is set for Nov. 25.
