Turning Point USA appears to be laying early groundwork for a potential JD Vance presidential run in 2028, according to comments from the organization’s new chief executive, Erika Kirk. In an interview released Monday on The Megyn Kelly Show, Kirk said support for a Vance bid is “in the works,” marking one of the strongest public signals yet that the influential MAGA youth organization is preparing to throw its weight behind the Ohio senator.

The move isn’t coming out of nowhere. Erika’s late husband, Charlie Kirk — Turning Point’s firebrand co-founder who was assassinated in Utah last September — championed Vance during Donald Trump’s 2024 vice-presidential search. The two men remained close allies, and Charlie saw Vance as the next natural leader of the MAGA movement.
Erika Kirk said one of her final conversations with Charlie centered on that vision. “He was intentional about supporting JD for ’28,” she told Kelly, adding that carrying out that political legacy remains part of her mission running the organization.

Still, she stressed that Turning Point’s immediate focus is on the midterms next year. “Let’s start with the midterms before we start jumping to ’28,” she said. “And let’s enjoy the fact that we do have Donald Trump in office… my husband worked really hard to make that happen.”
Turning Point USA, now one of the most influential forces in conservative youth politics, played a visible role in energizing younger voters for Trump in 2024. As Republicans quietly maneuver for the post-Trump era, the group’s endorsement is seen as a powerful asset — one that could shape the early dynamics of a 2028 GOP primary.
Trump himself has nudged the speculation forward. In August, he called Vance “most likely” to inherit the MAGA movement but also floated the idea of pairing him with Secretary of State Marco Rubio on a future ticket.
For now, there’s no formal campaign — only signals, conversations, and a powerful organization hinting at the direction it may go. But if Erika Kirk’s comments are any indication, JD Vance may already be the frontrunner for the MAGA mantle the moment the 2028 race begins.
