Morgan Geyser, one of the two Wisconsin girls who nearly killed a classmate in the infamous 2014 Slender Man stabbing, has vanished — and police say she didn’t go quietly.

Geyser, now 22, slipped out of her Madison group home Saturday night and sliced off her Department of Corrections monitoring bracelet before disappearing into the dark with an unnamed adult companion. Madison police say she was last seen around 8 p.m. on Kroncke Drive. By Sunday morning, staff realized she was gone and called authorities.

Investigators released a fresh security image and urged the public to dial 911 if they spot her. As of late Sunday, police say they’re chasing every tip they receive — but so far, the trail is thin.

Geyser is no stranger to headlines. When she was 12, she and her friend Anissa Weier lured their classmate, Payton Leutner, into the woods under the guise of a sleepover game. There, Geyser plunged a knife into Leutner 19 times while Weier stood by cheering her on. Leutner, bleeding and fighting for her life, crawled out to a bike path where a passerby found her. She survived.

The girls later claimed they attacked their friend to appease Slender Man — a faceless horror figure born from internet folklore, not reality. The chilling explanation ignited a nationwide panic about children, online creepypasta, and the fragile line between fantasy and delusion.

Despite their age, both girls were charged as adults. They were ultimately found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and committed to psychiatric care.

Eleven years later, Geyser was deemed stable enough for monitored release. Earlier this year a judge approved her transition to a supervised group home, a step down from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute, where she had spent much of her adolescence.

Weier was released back in 2021 under similar conditions.

Now, with Geyser’s sudden disappearance, Wisconsin residents are reliving a nightmare they thought had ended. Police have not said whether they believe she is dangerous, but the abrupt escape — and the fact she left alongside another adult — has locals on edge.

Her whereabouts remain unknown. What is known is how this story began: a sleepover, a knife, a myth, and a community forever scarred.

And now, a new chapter — written in the shadow of the same old fear.
