The death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner aboard a Caribbean-bound Carnival cruise has left her Florida community stunned, and the details emerging this week have only deepened the sense of shock. According to a report, a cabin steward found the Titusville teen wrapped in a blanket, covered in life jackets, and pushed under a bed—an unsettling discovery that has raised new questions about what happened in the hours before her death.

Kepner was traveling with family on the Carnival Horizon, which departed Miami on November 7 for a six-day cruise. Loved ones say she didn’t feel well during dinner the night before and decided to return to her cabin early. When her family gathered for breakfast the next morning, she didn’t show up. They searched the 133,500-ton ship—large enough to hold nearly 4,000 passengers—before a housekeeper found her body shortly after 11 a.m.

The ship immediately changed course and headed back to Miami. The Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner listed her time of death as 11:17 a.m., though the cause remains undetermined. An autopsy was completed on November 11, but investigators have not released the findings.

Kepner’s father, Christopher, said the family has few answers. “I have no idea what is going on right now,” he told reporters earlier this month. “We are just trying to sit still and wait for answers.” The FBI is leading the investigation because the death occurred in international waters between Florida and Mexico, a jurisdiction that routinely triggers federal oversight.

Kepner grew up in Titusville, a quiet Space Coast city where she was known as “Anna Banana,” a nickname that stuck from childhood. She was weeks away from graduating from Temple Christian School, where she was a varsity cheerleader, gymnast, and an all-around fixture of school spirit. Friends described her as energetic and sweet, with a deep love of sports and a particular attachment to University of Georgia football. According to her obituary, she dreamed of one day cheering for the Bulldogs.

She also had plans for her future. Kepner hoped to join the military after graduating in 2026 and eventually become a K9 police officer. Her family said her ambition reflected her constant desire to help others.
“She was full of life and loved by everyone in this community,” her father said. “She was special to so many people. The whole family is lost for words. We miss her and love her more than anything.”’

Carnival Cruise Line said in a statement that the company is assisting law enforcement. “Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest and cooperating with the FBI,” the company said.
For now, Kepner’s family—along with her school and hometown—waits for answers that have yet to come.
