Police say Asia Lozano Morton, a 25-year-old former bartender at one of San Francisco’s most famous exotic nightlife venues, helped plan the killing of her onetime boss, Mark Calcagni — a man many in the Bay Area’s entertainment scene described as a legend.
Morton was arrested at San Francisco International Airport last Friday after returning from a trip to Spain. According to investigators, she and her boyfriend, 43-year-old Richard Lond, were behind the October 3 killing of Calcagni, who was found shot to death outside his Santa Rosa home. Police believe Lond ambushed him around 6:30 a.m. as he returned from work, firing five shots before driving away in a Toyota RAV4.
Authorities say Morton and Lond were identified through witness interviews, security footage, and digital evidence. Police allege that Morton helped plan the killing after both she and Lond were fired from the San Francisco gentleman’s club where Calcagni worked as general manager. Lond was arrested at their apartment, while Morton was detained as she deboarded her flight home.
Morton had worked in nightlife for years and, by her own account, treated bartending as a calling. On her professional profile, she described it as her passion — something she “loved to do and enjoyed on a daily basis.” Friends told local reporters that Morton had built a reputation for professionalism and ambition within an industry often marked by chaos. That sense of commitment, they said, makes the allegations against her hard to reconcile.
Still, detectives believe she channeled her frustration over losing the job into a plan for revenge. According to police, Lond was the gunman, but Morton’s role was key in helping him orchestrate the ambush. She now faces an accessory-to-murder charge, while Lond is accused of murder and multiple gun violations. He also has a history of violent felony convictions, including assault with a deadly weapon.
The killing shocked two communities — San Francisco’s North Beach neighborhood, where Calcagni worked, and Santa Rosa, where he lived. The Condor Club, which Calcagni managed, called him “the heart and soul” of the city’s nightlife. Former employees said he had a reputation for fairness and for making the workplace safer for women in an industry that often isn’t.
Investigators are still looking for the murder weapon and reviewing digital communications between Morton and Lond to determine exactly how the killing was planned. Both remain in custody in Sonoma County.
