Britney Spears is pushing back against her ex-husband Kevin Federline’s new memoir, accusing him of using her name and their history to profit from her pain.

Federline, 47, is set to release his book You Thought You Knew on October 21. In recent days, excerpts from the memoir have begun circulating, painting a portrait of Spears, 43, that she says is manipulative and unfair — particularly when it comes to her relationship with their two sons, Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19.

On Thursday, Spears posted a lengthy response on X, formerly Twitter, following several days of growing tension over Federline’s press tour. “To be loved unconditionally and with a naive heart like mine, always being threatened or made to believe I’m the bad one as they profit off my pain,” she wrote. “Oh dear Jesus show me there is a God and I can too be loved unconditionally and not have to be so perfect.”

In her post, Spears accused Federline of “literally attacking” her during interviews promoting his book. “Why is HE SO ANGRY,” she asked. “It literally blows my mind the moments he stops before he cries — are you f—ing serious?”

Federline, who met Spears while working as a backup dancer in 2004, married the pop star that same year. The couple divorced in 2007 after a turbulent relationship that played out under intense public scrutiny, culminating in Spears’ infamous breakdown and the start of a 13-year conservatorship under her father, Jamie Spears.

While Federline has largely stayed out of the spotlight in recent years, his memoir marks a return to public attention — and to a version of their shared past that Spears says feels exploitative. “If you really love someone, then you don’t help them by humiliating them,” she wrote. “What scared me was how serious and angry he got. People have no idea — it is way worse than anyone could imagine.”

She also drew comparisons between Federline’s book and her own 2023 memoir The Woman in Me, suggesting his would likely sell more. But she framed her frustration less as rivalry than exhaustion. “The boy hates me,” she wrote, “and it is deep anger to literally say the things he is saying.”

Spears’ post veered into reflections on family estrangement. She mentioned her mother, Lynne Spears, who she says rarely reaches out, and her late relationship with her father, who controlled her finances and career for over a decade. “They secretly love to cast me out and make me feel completely isolated,” she wrote.

As for what comes next, Spears said she’s focused on healing. “I do need healing and I’m starting tomorrow on it,” she wrote, adding that she’s found comfort in tending to a miniature greenhouse. She also hinted at new creative ventures — acting, podcasting, and writing — but emphasized she won’t be rehashing her personal life again.

“People are never supposed to talk about controversy or shocking topics,” she concluded. “Thank you to the people supporting my heart right now. I know you guys understand it hurts.”
