A 60-year-old woman in St. Lucie County, Florida, has been arrested on suspicion of murdering her husband, in what investigators describe as a violent and deeply disturbing domestic incident. Bonnie Tietgens was taken into custody last week and charged with second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in connection with the death of her husband, 64-year-old William Tietgens. She remains held without bond at the St. Lucie County Jail.
Everything Was Covered In Blood

Deputies were called to the couple’s home on Birch Drive around 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 8, after receiving a report about a possible death. When they arrived, they found Bonnie Tietgens standing in the garage near a washing machine with a blood-soaked blanket on the floor beside her. Inside the washer, according to investigators, were clothes and towels covered in blood. “She was in the process of pressing the start cycle on the machine, apparently attempting to destroy potential evidence,” the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement.
A Cryptic Message For Her Son

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by People, deputies noted blood on her feet and reported that she appeared intoxicated. A trail of blood led from the living room into a bedroom, where investigators discovered the victim lying face down on the floor. He had sustained multiple severe head wounds consistent with blunt-force trauma. Earlier that evening, authorities said, Tietgens had attempted to reach her adult son by phone. When he returned the call around 9 p.m., she allegedly told him “Dad was dead” and admitted to striking her husband with a billy club.
She Told Deputies That She “Snapped”

Investigators say Tietgens later gave several inconsistent statements. At one point, she claimed her husband had sexually assaulted her earlier in the day, saying he had been “kissing her ears” and “rubbing her.” She also told deputies she had “snapped” and “couldn’t take it anymore.” The Sheriff’s Office has not confirmed whether any evidence supports her claims of assault, and the motive behind the killing remains under investigation. Sheriff Richard Del Toro described the incident as “tragic,” offering condolences to the couple’s family and friends. “We are committed to ensuring justice is served,” Del Toro said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the victim’s loved ones during this time.”
Neighbors Knew There Was Trouble, But Not Like This

William and Bonnie Tietgens have lived in the same Port St. Lucie neighborhood for years. Neighbors describe the couple as mostly quiet, though occasionally argumentative. “You’d hear them fighting sometimes, but you never think it’s going to end like this,” one neighbor told local reporters. Prosecutors with Florida’s 19th Circuit State Attorney’s Office have yet to formally file charges as they continue reviewing evidence gathered at the scene.
