Daisy Link / Miami-Dade Corrections

A Miami-Dade courtroom is once again the center of national attention as Daisy Link — the Florida woman who became pregnant while in jail without reportedly ever touching the father — stands trial for murder.

Link’s Story Is All Over The Place

Police tape

Link, 30, is accused of fatally shooting her partner, Pedro Jimenez, outside her Homestead home in June 2022. Prosecutors say she tried to mislead police by pretending she had just discovered his body, while the defense argues she shot him in self-defense after years of abuse. During the second day of testimony on Thursday, jurors watched body camera footage from responding officers that prosecutors said contradicted Link’s version of events. In the video, Link can be heard saying, “I see a hole from the back and a hole from the front — he was shot in his leg,” before exclaiming, “I saw him laying there.” Prosecutors told the jury that Link staged her reaction to appear shocked.

Her Attorney Is Claiming Self Defense

“In a fit of rage, she pulled out a gun and pointed it at the victim,” the prosecutor said during opening statements. “When Mr. Jimenez turned and ran in fear, she fired a single shot. The surveillance video will confirm it.” Her attorney, Tony Thomas, did not dispute that she fired the gun. But he told jurors the shooting was an act of self-defense. “The evidence will show the victim was out of control,” Thomas said. “He was unhinged, and he was dangerous. She fired a shot to get him to go away.”

She Tried To Have The Case Dismissed

The court also revisited earlier motions by the defense to have the case dismissed under Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” law — a bid the judge denied after reviewing 911 calls, body-camera recordings, and video from a nearby Ring doorbell that captured the moments surrounding the shooting. Police testified that Link initially denied having any role in the killing and claimed she “did not know who could have done this to him.” Prosecutors allege she attempted to conceal her involvement before admitting to firing the gun.

Link Got Pregnant While In Prison

Razor wire surrounds the Ross Correctional Institution in Chillicothe, Ohio, that houses death row inmates on Aug. 28, 2025.

The case took a bizarre turn last year when Link made headlines after becoming pregnant while in custody at the Miami-Dade Women’s Detention Center. Investigators later revealed that the father, fellow inmate Joan DePaz — also accused of murder — never had physical contact with her. According to WSVN, Link and DePaz reportedly passed materials between their cells using a makeshift line made of bedding tied through air vents. DePaz allegedly sent his semen rolled in plastic wrap, which Link used to inseminate herself. “I can’t believe it worked,” she later said. “I think everything happened for a reason.”

She Gave Birth Last Year

She gave birth to a baby girl in June 2024 while still incarcerated. The unusual pregnancy drew national coverage and renewed scrutiny of jail oversight in Florida. Now, with her murder trial underway, prosecutors are urging the jury to look past the tabloid intrigue. They argue the evidence — videos, testimony, and forensic reports — points to premeditated violence. Link’s defense insists otherwise, describing her as a domestic violence survivor who acted out of fear, not anger. The trial resumes Thursday morning, when jurors are expected to see additional surveillance footage from the night of the shooting.
