Dolly Parton has spoken directly to fans to put an end to speculation about her health, reassuring them that she is “doing okay” and not facing any serious illness. In an Instagram reel that she posted on October 8, the 79-year-old country music icon addressed growing concern following a recent wave of rumors and comments from her sister, Frieda Parton, asking fans to pray for her.
Filmed in a studio where she was working on commercials for the Grand Ole Opry, Parton appeared cheerful and lighthearted, dressed in black pants and a red top with black fringe. Smiling at the camera, she told viewers she wanted to clear the air personally, explaining that while she has been dealing with some health issues, there is “nothing major” to worry about. “Do I look sick to you?” she asked playfully, adding that she appreciated everyone’s concern and prayers.
Parton explained that her recent health setbacks stemmed partly from neglecting her own well-being while caring for her late husband, Carl Dean, who passed away earlier this year at age 82. She said she had “let a lot of things go” after his death and is now addressing them with help from doctors at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville. The singer noted that she is receiving occasional treatments but emphasized that she is not gravely ill and is simply taking time to focus on her health.
“I’m not dying,” she said plainly, assuring fans that she remains active. “I’m not ready to die yet, and I don’t think God is through with me,” she added, thanking those who had reached out in support.
Her comments follow public concern that began after Frieda Parton posted a message on Facebook asking for prayers for her older sister. The post quickly spread across social media, leading fans to fear that the country legend’s condition was more serious than reported. Frieda later clarified her statement, explaining that she “didn’t mean to scare anyone” and that her sister was simply “a little under the weather.” She said her request for prayers came from faith rather than alarm, describing it as “a little sister asking for prayers for her big sister.”
Parton had already fueled speculation in late September when she announced she was postponing her Las Vegas residency due to health concerns. In a lighthearted statement at the time, she said doctors advised her to undergo a few procedures, joking that it was “time for my 100,000-mile check-up,” but not the kind that involved cosmetic surgery.
Despite the temporary cancellations, Parton assured fans she intends to return to performing once she feels fully recovered. In her latest message, she reiterated her commitment to continue working, recording and supporting the causes close to her heart.
Her video, which she captioned “I ain’t dead yet!” was full of gratitude and reassurance. “There’s a lot of rumors flying around,” she said, “but I figured if you heard it from me, you’d know that I was OK.”
