Officials ruled her death a homicide, citing “traumatic neck injuries.”

For Bunyan’s family, the nightmare extends across continents. They are now raising funds to bring her body back to Scotland, where she was born and raised on the Isle of Arran. “June was known for her vibrant personality, infectious laugh, and deeply compassionate heart,” relatives wrote on a GoFundMe page that has already raised more than £10,000. “She worked tirelessly to build herself a better life.”
Bunyan Was Working to be an Immigration Lawyer

Bunyan was working in immigration law after earning a degree from Robert Fordon University in Aberdeen. While studying for the California bar exam. In 2024, she established Renteria Paralegal Services, describing the venture as a way to help attorneys navigate immigration law with “precision, efficiency, and care.”
No One Knows Why This Happened

The U.K. Foreign Office has confirmed it is in contact with local authorities in Los Angeles and is supporting Bunyan’s relatives. Police have not yet released further information about what led to the killing, but the mutilation charge against Jonathan Renteria suggest that the crime was particularly gruesome.
