The police lights in Independence, Kentucky, flickered late into Sunday night, drawing attention to a crime that left a young mother, a neighbor, and her ex-fiancée dead. According to Independence police, 24-year-old Heavan Glison and 33-year-old Daylon Bradford were killed in what investigators say was a murder-suicide carried out by Glison’s former fiancé, Donald Bryant, 34. Officers say Bryant fatally shot Glison and Bradford before taking his own life in the early hours of Monday morning. The violence began at an apartment complex where Glison recently moved. Officers responding to a shooting call discovered Bradford critically wounded. He was rushed to the hospital but died early Tuesday. While police have not detailed how Bradford became caught up in the attack, they confirmed he lived in the same complex as Glison. Meanwhile, Glison and Bryant fled into nearby woods, setting off a frantic manhunt. Police brought in drones and search dogs, eventually hearing a series of gunshots in the distance. By 3 a.m., canines led officers to the bodies of Glison and Bryant. Both were dead at the scene.

Glison Was Trying To Start a New Life

Glison’s family has since shared that her move to the complex was an attempt to build distance between herself and Bryant. The two were previously engaged and shared a child, just a few months old. Her relative, Kristina Cochran, told local outlet FOX 19 that Glison confided she was trying to leave an abusive relationship. “She just wanted to get away,” Cochran said. That effort ended in tragedy. The young mother’s decision to break ties with Bryant appears to have marked the beginning of a fatal escalation that ended with her death. Bradford, who police say was simply living in proximity to the couple, was pulled into that violence and became its third victim.

The murders cut short Glison’s life at just 24 years old, leaving behind two children. Her oldest, now in the care of extended family, will grow up knowing only through stories the contours of her mother’s life. Bradford’s own family, meanwhile, is left with the sudden loss of a 33-year-old whose role in this story remains murky but no less tragic. Independence police have confirmed their investigation is ongoing. For now, they say the events point clearly to Bryant as the shooter, carrying out a murder-suicide that ended three lives and shattered many more.
