On her podcast, Megyn Kelly laid out the recent controversy surrounding Charlie Kirk’s death, focusing on disputes over how his views on Israel were portrayed and what happened at a recent Hamptons gathering hosted by Bill Ackman. The segment traces competing accounts from Candace Owens, media figures, and those who attended the event, and Kelly frames the disagreement as part personal grievance, part debate over transparency and influence.

Kelly begins by noting Benjamin Netanyahu’s televised remarks the day after Kirk was shot, during which he read excerpts from a May letter from Kirk and described inviting him to Israel. Candace Owens objected to that public reading, arguing the excerpt was taken out of context and that portions suggesting Kirk had begun to question certain Israeli tactics were being suppressed. Owens called for the full letter and other communications to be published so Kirk’s evolving views could be understood in his own words.

A flashpoint in the coverage is a multi-influencer meeting in the Hamptons in early August hosted by Bill Ackman. Owens and reporter Max Blumenthal characterized that meeting as a tense “intervention,” where attendees, according to their sources, pressed Kirk about his position on Israel and sought to influence his platform. Owens alleged that Kirk felt pressured and spoke afterward of feeling “blackmailed,” and she maintained that he declined offers of funding intended to steer Turning Point USA’s choices.

Bill Ackman, in turn, has flatly denied those allegations. Ackman called the accounts false, said he has “receipts,” and described the gathering as a convening of diverse voices—some critical of Israel, some supportive—intended to foster debate and recruit potential campus organizers. He said that Charlie and Turning Point helped set the agenda and that the conversations were productive and cordial.

Kelly also relayed statements from Turning Point staffers who defended Kirk’s experience, noting that Andrew Kulwicki (a senior Turning Point staffer) told colleagues the event was cordial and that Charlie remained committed to booking diverse voices. Kelly emphasized her own conversation with Kirk on August 6—his last appearance on her show—where both she and he expressed frustration about being publicly labeled anti-Israel for airing milder criticisms or hosting debates that included dissenting voices.

Throughout her account, Kelly highlighted two broader themes: the pressure that public figures can feel from powerful supporters and donors, and the rush by commentators to summarize a complex personal evolution with simplistic labels. She stressed that Kirk and others felt their motives and character were being attacked, and she suggested that such dynamics can push people away from open discussion rather than encouraging it.

Kelly stopped short of endorsing any single narrative. Instead, she urged transparency—full publication of letters, messages, and recordings—so the public could weigh primary sources rather than snippets. Her piece positioned the dispute as both a personal quarrel among colleagues and a wider debate about how influence, funding, and public pressure shape political discourse.
