Vaccine Policy in Turmoil
The senator pointed to Kennedy’s decision to dismiss every member of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) vaccine advisory board, replacing them with figures she described as anti-vaccine activists. She said this has already influenced federal policy in ways that undermine public health.
Murray also highlighted Kennedy’s role in the firing of former CDC Director Susan Monarez, who she said was dismissed for standing up for science. The fallout, she added, has led to further resignations among experienced CDC staff.
Research and Innovation at Risk
Beyond vaccines, Murray criticized Kennedy for halting federal funding for mRNA research, which she described as a breakthrough not only for vaccines but also for cancer treatments. She warned that this decision hands global competitors like China an opening to surpass U.S. leadership in biomedical innovation.
She added that cuts to cancer research and clinical trials are leaving patients, including children with brain tumors, without access to potentially life-saving treatments. “They are killing their hope for a cure,” Murray said, calling the consequences devastating and irreversible for families.

Murray also raised concerns about food safety, claiming that federal surveillance of pathogens has been curtailed under Kennedy’s watch, potentially leaving Americans more vulnerable to outbreaks of foodborne illness.
She argued that these moves, combined with Kennedy’s public promotion of vaccine conspiracies, demonstrate a disregard for science and endanger communities nationwide.
Call for Accountability
Murray concluded by pressing colleagues to demand accountability. She said more than 1,000 HHS employees have called for Kennedy’s resignation, but that congressional inaction has allowed the situation to continue. “Anything less,” she said, “is lying to yourself while RFK Jr. lies to the American people.”
