A Milwaukee woman is now facing a felony charge after police say she went on a violent spree against a DoorDash driver’s car—all over a botched chicken wings order.
The chain of events started late on July 11, when delivery driver Faith Morris picked up what she described as a “high-priced” late-night food order. She had her kids in the car, she said, when her cell phone suddenly shut off because of an overdue bill. Without access to her DoorDash app, she couldn’t see the customer’s address and sat outside the intended house for 10 minutes, scrambling to get T-Mobile to restore her service. Eventually, she gave up and returned home.
That’s when, according to a criminal complaint, the customer’s frustration escalated. Prosecutors say 22-year-old Janiyah Jones not only accused Morris of stealing her food, but managed to track her to her home. Morris later told TMJ4 News that Jones called her repeatedly for nearly an hour. “There’s no way she should have been able to call me for an hour after this happened. An hour? It’s absolutely insane,” Morris said.
The confrontation turned destructive. Authorities allege Jones showed up at Morris’ residence armed with a brick and a tire iron. Ring doorbell footage and police body cam footage from a separate crash earlier this year, investigators say, helped them match Jones to the scene. The complaint states she smashed Morris’ windows, pelted the vehicle with a brick, and repeatedly struck it with the tire iron.
“It was so crazy how the glass was just raining from the sky when she was hitting it,” Morris recalled. By the end, the damage totaled more than $10,000. Morris hasn’t been able to work since, losing her primary source of income.
The entire ordeal, Morris pointed out, began with something as trivial as fast food. “She did this over a ten-piece chicken wing! She passed [another restaurant] to come here,” she said.
DoorDash condemned the attack in a statement, calling the customer’s alleged behavior “completely uncalled for, unacceptable, and disturbing.” The company confirmed that Jones has been permanently banned from the platform and stressed that customers are never given drivers’ home addresses. “We are in touch with the Dasher directly to offer our support,” the spokesperson added.
For now, Jones faces a felony charge. Morris, meanwhile, is left piecing her life back together after what she describes as an unthinkable act of retaliation over a failed delivery.
