A Christian school teacher in Virginia has been arrested and charged after authorities say she engaged in sexual activity with a male student last fall.

Katelin Campbell, 34, was taken into custody last Thursday and booked at the Halifax County Adult Detention Center. According to county records, Campbell faces two charges: having consensual sex with a child 15 years or older, and taking indecent liberties with a child by a person in a custodial relationship. She was released the same day on a $2,500 bond.

Campbell had been teaching English at C.H. Friend School, a private Christian school serving grades seven through 12. School officials state that Campbells was fired “immediately” upon hearing the allegations in November 2024.

Dana Jones, the school’s headmistress said that she felt no issues reporting the accusation to the police even though she knows that the school will draw scrutiny from the community. “We chose integrity instead of it being swept under the rug,” Jones said. “Scripture is very clear that if it was done in the dark, it was going to be brought to light. We understand that taking it to the police department, it was going to come shine a light on us. We took what we were told to them and let them carry on with their investigation.”

Jones said she couldn’t recall the exact date the accusation first reached her office, but estimated it was within the last month. Campbell, who had been with the school for about a year, was terminated as soon as the school learned of the claim.

The Commonwealth’s Attorney confirmed that the victim was a male student, though his name and age have not been released. Court filings indicate the investigation is ongoing, and additional details about the case have not yet been made public.

Cases like this often carry a heavy weight for schools, not just because of the harm alleged, but because of what they reveal about the trust parents place in educators. For C.H. Friend, a school rooted in Christian teaching, the scandal is a painful rupture — one its leadership says it felt compelled to confront directly.

Campbell’s next court date has not been set. For now, she remains free on bond, while the community waits for the courts to sort out what happened inside the classroom and beyond.
