Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas) brushed off a blistering New York Post profile on Thursday that painted her as a “boss from hell” who mistreats staff, calling the claims false and politically motivated.
The article, which ran under the headline “Trump critic Rep. Jasmine Crockett is a no-show boss from hell who terrorizes staffers, aides say: ‘All diva, no wow,’” cited three anonymous sources who claimed to have worked for or with the freshman lawmaker. They alleged that Crockett verbally abuses employees, fosters a “toxic” workplace, and prioritizes building her public profile over serving her district.
Crockett, a former civil rights attorney known for her sharp one-liners and unflinching critiques of Republicans in high-profile hearings, addressed the report the same day during an interview on CBS News’ The Takeout. When host Major Garrett asked her directly if she was “a no-show boss from hell who terrorizes staffers,” Crockett laughed before responding.
“Oh my goodness. I know that I have arrived, honey,” she said, adding that she saw the piece as a sign of her rising influence. “Because as Beyoncé says, if they’re not talking about you, then obviously you must not be doing anything.”
Crockett brushed off the allegations as “slander,” “nonsense,” and “lies,” before layinginto the Post about the motives behind their reporting, suggesting that the negative coverage is racially motivated. Aside from being a young, Black democratic lawmaker in Texas, she’s a frequent thorn in the side of Donald Trump.
“There’s a lot of scrutiny that comes my way, and it comes my way from all different angles,” Crockett said. “But when people start talking about you, that’s when you know that you are obviously getting under their skin. So I am not going to give up.”
The Post story comes at a time when Crockett’s national profile is expanding beyond her Dallas-area district. From the moment she entered Congress in 2023, Crockett has used her law background and razor sharp wit to give blistering remarks to other lawmakers in her way. Many of these dunks have turned into viral moments. As much as she’s celebrated for speaking truth to power, her verbal jabs have earned her a role as a frequent conservative punching bag.
Crockett did not directly address the specific claims from the unnamed sources but made clear she saw the broader narrative as an attack designed to undercut her credibility. For now, she appears intent on leaning into the scrutiny rather than backing away from the spotlight.
“I’m not going to let lies or smear campaigns dictate how I show up for my constituents,” she said. “If anything, it just reminds me that I’m doing something worth talking about.”
