Courtney Clenney, a 27-year-old social media influencer and former OnlyFans model, who has been accused of fatally stabbing her boyfriend, Christian Obumseli during an altercation that turned violent in April 2022.
Clenney has plead not guilty to second-degree murder, claiming that she acted in self-defense. However, the prosecution believes that Clenney stabbed Obumseli after months of abuse that she initiated. The couple had been living in a luxury high-rise apartment in the Edgewater neighborhood of Miami. Clenney, who had built a sizable online following through Instagram and OnlyFans, appeared to live a glamorous life. But according to prosecutors, behind the curated image was a volatile and dangerous relationship.
Some of the footage that investigators have seen shows multiple altercations between Clenney and Obumseli, including an incident in an elevator where you can clearly see her striking him repeatedly. According to their neighbors, in the weeks leading up to the tragic events of April 2022, the couple were constantly engaged in screaming matches.
On April 3, 2022, police responded to a 911 call made by Clenney, who said she had stabbed Obumseli during a fight. He was found bleeding from a chest wound and later died at the hospital. Clenney later told officers that she threw a knife at Obuseli from across the room during the fight, but medical examiners state that the wound was more than likely sustained from a close up attack.
Initially, Clenney was not charged with a crime. She was briefly detained under Florida’s Baker Act, which allows for temporary involuntary psychiatric evaluation. After her release she traveled to Hawaii. In August 2022, she was arrested and extradited to Florida to face second-degree murder charges.
